- Starching your saree makes it crisp and wrinkle-free. It also makes cleaning easier because dirt and sweat clings to the starch rather than the fabric. Starching also helps to keep wrinkles away for a longer time. It allows fewer washes, and so a starched saree can be worn more frequently. The crispness will only remain for a little while but if you do not like the starched look you can use steam iron to get rid of the stiffness.
- It's always advisable to get sarees that are hand printed, dry cleaned first time as it helps set the colour.
- Always gently handwash your natural fabric and natural dye clothes with gentle detergents or shampoo.
- Wash clothes that are handprinted or hand dyed separately to avoid staining.
- It is always better to dry clean silk or cotton silk sarees. You can also handwash as instructed above keeping in mind that it may lead to some shrinkage and temporary texture change.
- Avoid ironing such clothes directly, either use steam iron or use another plain cloth between the iron and your outfit.
- Do not soak and always dry in shade.
